Ryan grew up in Salina, Kansas and enjoyed time spent going to K-State football games and traveling to Kansas City to see the Royals play. At the age of 10, he started mowing lawns. Ryan always had 8-12 lawns he was taking care of until he left for college. During high school, he also worked at the Rolling Hills Zoo just west of Salina on the grounds crew. After high school, Ryan played football for two years at Fort Hays State University, then transferred to Kansas Wesleyan and played football for one more year. While in college, he worked on a mow crew at a commercial grounds maintenance company, where he fell in love with the green industry and has never left. He worked as an arborist and tree climber for the next eight years after college. Before joining Signature, he worked for a golf course part-time on weekends mowing greens and setting up the pin locations for the day.
Ryan joined Signature as an Account Manager in 2019. What he likes most about being an Account Manager is the everyday challenges he faces, as well as being able to form client relationships. Ryan’s passion is making things beautiful in the landscape; he most enjoys the projects that provide instant gratification. He has continued to pursue a career in the green industry because of his passion for working with trees, shrubs, and landscapes. As a part of the Signature team, Ryan appreciates the resource his colleagues provide with their expertise on client relations and landscape practices. He thrives in the collaborative environment of such talented people.
Ryan is very fond of the outdoors which is why he enjoys the green industry so much. He delights in experiencing nature which explains his love to fish, hunt, hike, and golf in his free time. Ryan lives in Lenexa with his girlfriend Chelsea and his two daughters, Elli and Maci. He also has a Lab/Pointer named Nala, who loves nothing more than to be outside, whether it’s 20 degrees or 100 degrees.
